Relax beneath the covered loggia w/ fireplace, custom heating and lighting system, lush landscaping and enchanting vistas.

YOUR MAMAS NOTES: Since it was written about in such places as the Hot Properties column in the Los Angeles Times way back in October of 2008, it's certainly not news that Colleen Maloof listed her mansion in the guard gated Mulholland Estates community which sits high in the hills above Beverly Hills and is, technically, part of Sherman Oaks. It's also no secret among real estate people who push property in the Platinum Triangle that the "Tuscan inspired villa" recently went into escrow and vanished from the public pages of the MLS.

For those who do not know, Miz Maloof is the well to do widow of big time booze distributor George Maloof and the mother of Joe, Gavin, George Jr., Phil and Adrienne Maloof who together run The Maloof Companies, a diversified family business that distributes booze, owns the Sacramento Kings professional basketball team, owns several hotels and casinos including The Palms in Las Vegas, produces some reality tee-vee programs such as the jaw droppingly horrific Living Lohan, and holds a huge amount of shares in banking behemoth Wells Fargo.

Anyhoo, as it turns out, the identity of the big name buyer of Miz Maloof's mansion was recently revealed to Your Mama. Early last week we were chit-chatting with the impossibly well informed Nelly Knowsitall who off-handedly mentioned that the heavily worked over Widow Maloof was selling her house to heavy metal guitar maestro Saul Hudson, otherwise known as Slash.

Mister Slash has been fodder for all the real estate gossips for quite some time. Y'all will recall that in 2007 he sued a real estate agent for misrepresenting the number of parking spaces at a house he purchased (and has since sold) in the Hollywood Hills. Your Mama had long been hearing whispers and real estate rumors that Mister Slash and his wifey Perla had sold their Studio City house and were rooting around for new digs. In fact, several months ago we heard from a talkative tipster who whispered in Your Mama's big ol' ear that the Hudsons were buying British pop star Robbie Williams' Mulholland Estates mansion.

That information has turned out to be a bunch of hooey. However, for what it's worth, Mister Williams' mansion does sit directly across the street from The Widow Maloof's mansion. It's also next door to the house boob-toob bench warmer Judge Greg Mathis has on the market for $5,900,000 and just a few doors down from Paris Hilton house, which probably isn't much of a selling point for many multi-million dollar buyers but clearly did not bother Mister and Mrs. Hudson. Other rich and famous inhabitants of the Mulholland Estates community includes Vanna White, Charlie Sheen and Brooke Mueller, and billionaire Tom Gores who happens to be trying to unload a monstrous piece of vacant land in Bel Air for a bank account busting $65,000,000.

But we digress...again. Property records show Miz Maloof forked over eight million clams for her "Tuscan inspired villa" in February of 2006 and listing information we obtained shows that she first listed the 10,971 square foot manse in May of 2008 with a rather optimistic asking price of $13,995,000. Miz Maloof soon got serious about selling and chopped the asking price to $10,200,000 and then got even more serious and slashed the asking price to $8,985,000 before it was, according to Miz Knowsitall, snatched up by Mister and Missus Slash who have yet to close on the property.

Listing information shows the house measures a hefty 10,971 square feet and includes 7 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms. Other amenities in the three story residence include an entrance hall designed to impress the guests and the Chinese food delivery man, a formal living room with disturbingly off-center cabinetry surrounding the fireplace, a formal dining room, game room, temperature controlled wine cellar, a home thee-ay-ter with puffy, crap colored leather recliners, and a colossal kitchen that opens to the breakfast and family rooms and features two work islands, two SubZero refrigerators, 4 overns and 4 damn dishwashers. That's right, four.

The modestly sized backyard entertainment areas includes a lounging loggia with an outdoor fireplace, a patch of grass for the pooches, a simple rectangular swimming pool and spa, a built in barbecue center and a view of a bunch of palm trees.

In addition to Mama Maloof, a couple of the Maloof children have recently put their Los Angeles estates on the market including Phil whose Bev Hills house was first listed at $16,995,000 and is currently listed at a much lower $10,865,000, and Joe whose Brentwood bedsit is currently listed at $4,200,000, reduced from $4,995,000.

Worth 500k max.

It does nothing, absolutely nothing, for me. With the sort of inventory there is right now, a property should do something for a person, don't you agree? Really, truly do something. This really truly does nothing. The rooms look very uncomfortable. Those Lazy Boy theater seats are sickening.

It is a tidy mess of beige on my screen........but a sale is a sale.

Should be interesting to see what it sells for. Miz Maloof forked over $8mm for it and its not listed at $8,950,000 after that re-di-cu-lous $14m asking price... doesn't take an idiot to see she'll be lucky to break even on the place she owned just a touch over 3 years. When will other sellers come to this reality?

I saw this house a long time back, its a huge house crammed on a relatively small lot in Mulholland Estates. Its odd that a 2 car garage is located on the motor court and then another is tucked under that garage accessed from the road.

The interior curtains are too billowy and heavy for my taste as are the furnishings blah. The kitchen is huge. House could be beautiful with a decorating overhaul.

That theater is a joke, its a big plasma tv, nothing more.

The "four" dishwashers are just those small divided Fisher Paykel dishdrawers (which I had in the bar of my old house and are terrible) Two equal one normal dishwasher. So its more like 2 real dishwashers and they don't work very well at all.

I think for the size and condition of the house it was price pretty well. Couldn't sell for anymore because its such a small lot and when you get $10+mm in Beverly Hills Post Office people expect some land usually.

Mama, Did Lance Bass finally sell his place or is it just expired / cancelled off the market? You should do a weekly recap of the status of "what happened" to properties you discussed, whether they sold or withdraw from the market. Would be curious to see how successful or unsuccessful these people are.

(Oh, and the only reason I ask about LB's house is because someone mentioned on the RiRi post about Ryan Phillipes Asian inspired Freak Out of a house, which I think is the only house uglier than Lance's I've ever seen... although this time around Lance's house is better than it was back when he first tried to unload it.)

I can see in the facade how they were going for a vintage Los Feliz look, but it's all sort of lumpy and haphazardly thrown together. Each of the elements is wrong in its own unique way.

Better than most of the houses in the 'hood, but that's not saying much -- faint praise.

Help me out here, my fellow children. I just went on coldwell banker and did a $2-5 million search and saw some fabulous, beautiful property. Why are these science fiction prices still out there? Go do that same search and I think you'll be amazed. Hollywood Hills, Bel-Air, Hancock Park, there are gorgeous properties under 5 mil all over. If I had the liquid funds right now I would feel like the proverbial kid in the candy store.
My muscle relaxer is just kicking in, looking at Maloof's horrid chairs made my discs rupture.

TGeorgica, They are all small. Yes you can buy a gorgeous house in LA for that much money, but its not gonna be 11k sq ft

true, darling, but I would sacrifice a few of those extra ovens and dishwashers and even a few bedrooms that I'll never sleep in NOT to be in Sherman Oaks! Bigger isn't always better.

Anonymous said...

i never said bigger is better, but you pay for what you get and in real estate size matters

in husbands as well, darling!

yes dear, among a few other things!

These "faux" Beverly Hills gated communities don't do anything for me. I really don't get what the appeal of Mullholland Estates *an overpriced Sherman Oaks sub-division* and The Summit *an overpriced Studio City sub-division* do for anyone. The lots are small, not particularly phenomenal views... and most of the homes are hid-e-ous!

agreed anon 6:39

nothing special about either neighborhood, just a bunch of cookie-cutter mcmansions done in poor taste.

Well, we already know that Slash is sue happy, which he must be a complete idiot if he couldn't tell some of the things named in his suit on his own.

I remember seeing the agent marketing this house as on 3/4 of an acre, which the lot isn't even close to that size. Hopefully they fixed that before the Slash came along or I see another mis-representation law suit in his future.

Is beige paint always on sale in Cali? Damn, Californians love beige.

Anonymous said...

oh please, like its a claifornian thing, more homes throughout hte country are a biege mess than any other color

Anonymous said...

That's alot of house for Slash to potentially miss something he may think of later and want to sue Miz Maloof over. I agree with a previous poster who found nothing about this house appealing. It's a proverbial "pile" as Mama would say. I'd start growing vines all over it asap to camoflage the awkward facade design.

I actually like this puppy, Mama. I think I could really do somethings with this one for sure.

Will be surprised if she gets what she's asking. I think maybe $7.7M.

Congratulations on the Paxton Gate ad............it is a well designed website and well worth a browse around.

I am not even going to comment on this one, but I guess I already did. If Joan Collins liked drab colors this might work for her---all that faux, oversized bullsh*t broyhill furniture won off The Price is Right. The rooms are big, but they didn't make it cozy. Look how those pictures are hung in that screening room. The house has a weird, cold, washed out feel. Like the entry way of a Hotel in every room, fake, not real. And, that style of house is warm, old world and charming--but in the redo they lost it all. That little dining room table thing can't even hold that many people. All pavement upon looking at the front of the house. Overall, buyers market out there, this is a NO NO, and Hell to the No, as Whitney would say.

Mama's black sheep in WEHO,
Trust me I was nice to this one, so I am officially being *nice*

I think Lance Bass's decorated did this house up as well. Super sale at Broyhill!

All that sub-prime vulture money has led Mama Maloof to sub-prime decorating...well, maybe it was never there.

The home of the bland. As we so often see, thanks to Your Mama's diligent efforts, without the gay de-cor-ater, or if you are really well connected,Miss frivolity, rich people are just tediously boring. Larger isn't necessarily better unless you are talking about bank accounts or AT paychecks. Large and brown, large and beige, large and vanilla, God help us, my eyes have stopped working altogether.

did the widow maloof buy this place before or after she was a widow? i ask because it certainly doesn't look like it was decorated for a woman, more like for a c-list arabian prince. the master bedroom is a woman's bedroom? not any woman i know. . .

Anonymous said...

Suggestion to Slash.....when you move it, turn on your Burglar Alarm. Don't be another Paris and expect that living in a gated community means you don't have to lock your doors.....

Anonymous said...

this place is just another poorly done pile. the design is blah and an ill attempt to the kinda missioney style hispanic design.

The exterior trim around the windows is a pale green that is just washed out against all the beige, shoulda done a dark rich brown. Inside is real blah. Nothing spacial just ltos of stone and cheap pressed board woodwork.
